Norman, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Intrastate rivals collide on Tuesday evening, as the Golden Eagles of Oral Roberts pay a visit to the 15th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners. After starting the season at 1-3, Oral Roberts have won three of its last four to climb back to the .500 mark (4-4). The Golden Eagles improved to 3-0 at home on Monday night, as they took down Missouri State in an 80-61 final. They are 0-3 in true road games however, and this is the first of three straight and five of the next six the team will play away from the Mabee Center. Oklahoma comes in with a 6-2 record, and the team is seeking its third consecutive victory after taking down Missouri (82-63) and Tulsa (87-68) since the start of December. The Sooners are 3-0 at home this season. Two years ago in Tulsa, Oklahoma snapped Oral Roberts 24-game regular-season, home winning streak with a 63-62 victory. As a result, the Sooners lead in the all-time series stands at 12-2. Oral Roberts drained a season-high 10 3-pointers in turning away the visiting Missouri State Bears on Monday night. Bobby Word scored 16 points, Adrion Webber tallied a career-best 15, and Denell Henderson pitched in with a dozen to go with eight rebounds for the Golden Eagles, who shot 49.1 percent from the field and converted 14-of-18 free throws. The teams defensive effort yielded only a .393 opponents field goal percentage, which included a dismal 4-of-17 showing from beyond the arc. Aaron Young and Obi Emegano each scored a 12 points for the winning side as well. Emegano and Korey Billbury are the only two players averaging double figures for ORU on the season, netting 16.9 and 13.8 ppg, respectively. They also pace the teams rebounding effort with a combined 11.8 rpg. Overall, the Golden Eagles are putting up just 66.4 ppg in hitting only 39.9 percent of their total shots, which includes a 31.3 percent performance from beyond the arc. Conversely, foes are scoring just shy of 70 ppg in hitting 45.0 percent of their field goal attempts, with a .366 3-point FG percentage figured in there as well. ORU is +1.4 in turnover margin, goading the opposition into close to 14 miscues per outing. TaShawn Thomas scored 25 points and Isaiah Cousins hit for 21, as Oklahoma claimed a double-digit win at Tulsa on Saturday. Buddy Hield pitched in with 11 points, despite going just 4-of-17 from the field, which included misses on nine of his 11 3-point tries. Jordan Woodard dished out nine assists for the Sooners, who shot 46.9 percent from the field and went 19-of-24 at the foul line. Tulsa was held to 40 percent field goal efficiency, and OU used 12 offensive rebounds to account for 24 second-chance points. Hield (16.0 ppg), Cousins (13.4 ppg) and Thomas (10.3 ppg) are Oklahomas only double-digit scorers at the moment, although leading rebounder Ryan Spanger (9.6 ppg, 8.3 rpg) is close to joining the ranks. As a team, the Sooners are netting 73.8 ppg while permitting 62.1 ppg, and they are limiting the opposition to rather anemic shooting efforts of .367 overall and .279 from beyond the arc. Factor in a +4.0 rebounding advantage and its not difficult to see why the team has won three times as many games as its lost to this point. Houston Rockets Jerseys . Now the Minnesota Vikings have set their sights on soccer. With construction underway on their new stadium, the Vikings have intensified their pursuit of a Major League Soccer franchise for the NFL facility that team owners designed in hopes of accommodating both sports. Co-owner Mark Wilf met this week with MLS officials, the latest dialogue between the two parties. The Vikings also announced a partnership with promoter Relevent Sports, a major player in the soccer world that is helping sell an international tournament game between two European teams to be played at the University of Minnesota in August. "We like to go to new markets," Revelant Sports CEO Charlie Stillitano said Wednesday. "It seems like wherever we go an MLS team follows, and I think its a good thing." Most MLS teams, 15 of the current 19, play in soccer-specific stadiums for around 20,000 fans in a more intimate setting, but the Vikings have been touting their plan to classily cover the upper bowl of their new venue and reduce capacity from 65,000 to between 20,000 and 25,000. The translucent roof and five pivoting glass doors on the front of the building -- plus seats and suites close to the action -- give the facility a more vibrant feel. "Theres a real opportunity there, and we really have a lot of respect and admiration for the ownership group," MLS Commissioner Don Garber said earlier this year. Atlanta will begin play in 2017 at that citys new retractable roof NFL stadium to be built for the Falcons, whose owner Arthur Blank acquired the soccer club. Plans there will convert the 71,000-seat football facility to a soccer capacity of 29,000 by only using the lower bowl. With the regular season starting in March and the MLS Cup held in December, a roof would be ideal for a team in Minnesota. When Sporting KC won the championship game outside last year, the game-time temperature in Kansas City was 22 degrees with a wind chill of 12 that plummeted as the sun set. The MLS has added five teams in thhe last five years with a goal of 24, and New York City and Orlando will make 21 next season.dddddddddddd Miami has also granted a franchise to former star David Beckham, contingent on a soccer-specific stadium being built there. That only leaves one spot left, and Garber said earlier this year Sacramento, California, San Antonio and San Diego are also under consideration. MLS executive vice-president for communications Dan Courtemanche said theres no specific deadline for awarding the next franchise. "There is no shortage of demand for future MLS expansion teams, and many markets and potential ownership groups have contacted the league office to inquire," he said. Criteria for MLS expansion include a committed local viable ownership group with a comprehensive stadium plan it controls, in an appropriate market attractive to sponsors and television networks with a history of strong fan support. The Twin Cities area currently has a team, Minnesota United FC, in the North American Soccer League, a level below the MLS. "We think our stadium is the perfect fit for MLS. We also think that Minneapolis-St. Paul has tremendous potential for MLS," Vikings vice-president for public affairs and stadium development Lester Bagley said. The legislation authorizing funding for the stadium included a five-year window from the opening during which the Wilfs have exclusive rights to bring an MLS franchise to the venue. That doesnt mean another group couldnt beat them to it at another site. Minnesota United owner Bill McGuire, the former CEO of United Health Group, has been linked with Minnesota Twins owner Jim Pohlad as potential partners in an MLS franchise. But that would require money for and construction of yet another new sports facility in a crowded market. Vikings officials will use the Aug. 2 match between Manchester City FC and Olympiacos FC, part of the Guinness Cup tournament, as an opportunity to gain more knowledge of and grassroots support for the sport. About 20,000 tickets have been sold so far, Stillitano said. ' ' '
